Life After the Catastrophe

While many townships devastated by the earthquake were emptied, most survivors were homeless and the tents set up in school yards became their temporary shelters. Facing broken homes and an unpredictable future, many victimized people succumbed to the torment, with 29 suicidal cases reported days after the calamity. Meanwhile, the government, civil organizations and international agencies launched quickly into building prefabricated houses, container-converted living quarters and classrooms, and accommodating the homeless.
